Compass

Business Simulation Game

The Challenge

Within their Freedom within a Framework initiative that the Compass Group engaged with Results International on in 2008, was the clear objective of driving the business towards centralised purchasing. Not only was this more profitable for the business but gave greater assurances over the traceability of food product and greater control over supply chain and stock.

The Agreed Solution

Integrated into the Freedom within a Framework solution that Result International designed to achieve the cultural transformation was the 1-3-5 Business Game. The purpose of the game was to illustrate to the different business units across the Compass Estate the importance of compliant centralised purchasing whilst also building financial and commercial confidence and understanding.

In running their own deli franchise against competing teams the delegates explored the world of pricing strategies, profit margins and fixed costs in a fun, relaxed and realistic arena. The key objective of compliant purchasing was central to the game where any team falling outside the parameters set were closed down!

The Result

The game was an instant hit and the key objective was reinforced throughout the Compass Estate in a subtle, albeit powerful way. On playing the game at the Executive and Senior Management conference which resulted in 100% compliance by Round 2 of the game (after a number of teams had been closed down in Round 1) the CEO commented that the game had achieved in 15 minutes what Compass had been seeking to do for two years.
